A New Society, A New Life

Introduction:

This blog is going to tackle the topic of the new life and the new society which Muslims built in al Madinah. In their online lessons and courses of Quran and Islamic studies, the best online teachers and tutors teach their kid and adult students that Muslims left the unbelievers in Makkah behind them. In makkah there were only two clashing forces; the Makkan elite with their torture and prosecution on the one hand, and prophet Mohammad with his believing patient followers on the other. However, that was not the case in Madinah. While Makkah was a mainly commercial town, Madinah was a more agricultural one. The landscape was different from that in Makkah.

Social and political affairs:

Madinah, Yathrib, was politically and socially torn. The Jews in Madinah could plant the seeds of split and enmity among the Arab tribes of the town. The two major Arab tribes inside al-Madina had long suffered hostility and war over decades and decades. to sell their arms, armors and artillery, the Jews had blown into the fire to make the war continue between al-Aws and al-Khazraj. Also, there was a local leadership in Madinah aspiring to rule the town. On the other hand, there was a difference between the Makkan migrants and the native Madinah supporters of al-Ansar.

Prophet mohammad’s political role:

The necessity of the time needed prophet mohammad to be the ruler of al-madinah. He had a lot of followers. His followers obeyed him and at the same time needed a leader. A ruler needs a house of common, a parliament, a place to meet his followers. Therefore, the first thing prophet Mohammad did was to build a mosque in al-Madina. This was very crucial and vital for muslims.

The prophet’s mosque in al-madinah:

The online courses for the Holy Quran and Islamic studies teach kid and adult students that iInside and around al-madinah, there were different categories of people. There were al-Ansar, al-Muhajireen, the Jews, the pagan Arabs and the hypocrites. In the background, there was also Quraish and their old enmity towards Muslims, prophet Mohammad and the Holy Quran. It was no longer a question of revelation and a group of increasing followers hungry for it. Therefore, the Madani Quran differs in nature from the Makki Quran. Meanwhile, the true leader of Madina needed headquarters to organize work in that emerging political unit and state. It was no coincidence that the prophet built the mosque in Madinah as the first thing he did. It was high time that Islam had had its tangible form. Muslims had to practice their faith. Muslims needed to have its material symbol. They had to get together often to show how strong they were. This was necessary to deter any hostile group from attacking them. This is the philosophy of attaining power and strength in Islam; not for aggression, rather for deterrence.

Building unity, building strength:

Islam always calls for unity. The greatest sin a Muslim can ever do is to create factions or groups within the muslim nation and society. Muslims are one nation, one society. The factors leading to unity are too many to count. Allah is One. Muslims worship no other one except for Allah, the Holy Quran is one and the same book. The Qibla for Muslims is one and the same, the Kaaba in Makkah. Muslims pray in congregations which symbolize unity as well. Likewise, Muslims go fasting in the same month of Ramadan, to name just a few.

How prophet mohammad built up his power:

Prophet Mohammad had some urgent issues to tackle. First, the migrants left their money in Makkah for the sake of their faith. Therefore, prophet Mohammad held a brotherhood between the Makkan migrants and the Madani supporters. Every supporter would share his house and money with a migrant. Although the supporters didn’t mind it, many migrants politely rejected this recommendation. Next, prophet Mohammad held a reconciliation between al-aws and al-Khazraj; ending decades of enmity. This ate the hearts of the Jews in Madina.

Prophet and the leader of al Madina:

Many local Madina natives had long aspired for leadership in the town. However, their dreams collapsed before their eyes with the success of prophet Mohammad in migration, building the mosque, holding the brotherhood among his supporters and finally ending the enmity between al-Aws and al-Khazraj. All this led to the political fact that prophet Mohammad was the real and true undoubted political leader of the town. This way, prophet Mohammad succeeded in securing the internal front. This was very important in preparing Muslims for what was to come.
