Introduction

Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree,  holds unparalleled significance in Islam as the night when the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad began through the angel Jibril. It is a night of immense blessings, mercy, and forgiveness. It surpasses the value of a thousand months. Allah says in Surah Al-Qadr: ((“Indeed, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” )) (97:1-5)

The Timing of Laylat al-Qadr

The exact timing of Laylat al-Qadr remains unknown, as Allah has chosen to conceal it to encourage Muslims to seek it diligently during the last ten nights of Ramadan. This divine wisdom pushes believers to increase their acts of worship and devotion across all ten nights. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized this when he said: Whoever seeks Laylat al-Qadr, let him seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan.
