First of all, This blog is going to talk about one of the most important rules of al-Tajweed. In the first place, Truly, This blog is going to talk about The ruies of al-noon al-sakinah, Idgham. Linguistically, dgham is an Arabic word. Idgham means to mix or to insert one thing into another. Practically, In Idgam, we mix or insert one Sakin letter (sound) into another letter (sound). in Tajweed, The second letter (sound) is Mutaharrak. a Mutaharrik letter or (sound) is a short syllable. a short syllable consists of a consonant followed by one of the short vowel sounds: / a /, / e / or / u / . Therefore, such short vowel sounds are the three harakat in arabic. Technically, We call the three harakat in Arabic al-fatiha, al-kasra and al-dammah.
The Idgham letters:
After Idgham the new resulting sound is stressed. We call a stressed Arabic letter (sound) Mushaddad. There are six letters (sounds) for the Idgham rule to apply this rule. Tajweed scholars formed an Arabic word out of these six letters. The word reads as Yarmaloon ( يرملون ). the ٍSakin and the tanween and the Idgham letter have to be in different successive words. If not, the reader shouldn’tdo Idgham. In such a case, it will be Izhar Mutalq or absolute Izhar. We can find this case only in four cases in the Holy Quran
Basically, the letters of Idghaam with Ghunnah are the letters of the arabic word: (Ynmu) or / ي /, / ن /, / م / and / و /. So and for this reason, when one of these four letters follow the tanween or the noon sakinah , the reader should make Idghaam with Ghunnah for two beats. Therefore, to pronounce the Idgham, the reader skips the noon or tanween and pronounces the Ghunnah with the following letter for two beats.
