After having their breakfast at sunset, a Muslim gets ready for the Taraweeh prayer. Taraweeh prayer is a sunnah and a voluntary prayer. It takes place only in Ramadan. Therefore, it is a sign and landmark of the virtuous month of Ramadan. Historically, prophet Mohammad prayed it on his own after al-isha prayer in Ramadan. The prophet’s companions, Sahaba, asked him about it. However, he did not answer them. When they insisted, prophet Mohammad said if he had said it was obligatory, it would have been a must for a muslim to pray it every night in ramadan. Muslims began to pray it individually. Nevertheless, for more organization, Omar ibn al-Khattab suggested that it would be performed in a congregation.

Taraweeh prayer nowadays:

Ever since, mosques compete to attract as many worshipers as possible. Moreover, Muslims do their best to complete reciting the Holy Quran during al-Taraweeh prayer in Ramadan. efficient reciters of the Holy Quran are invited to lead the taraweeh prayer during Ramadan. After finishing their voluntary prayer, a Muslim returns home having got a big spiritual doze which makes them closer to their Lord.
