However, their worst dreams began to come true. The Muslims began to increase their power and gain new grounds at the expense of makkah. What made matters worse was that Abu Suffian told them about the muslims’ attempt to control the merchant caravan which he was leading.

The battle of Badr:

In their Quran and Islamic studies courses and lessons, kid and adult students learn that the Battle of Badr was the first military encounter between Quraish and the muslims in the vicinity of Madinah. In retaliation to the interception of the merchant caravan, Quraish decided to march a big army to Madinah. The army targeted wiping out Muslims and Islam altogether. As soon as prophet Mohammad had heard about the Quraish mobilizing their army, he consulted his companions. They discussed how to defend al-Madinah. They decided not to fight inside the town. They chose to fight the Quraish outside al-Madinah.

Why was it called the battle of badr?

Badr was a well of water outside al-Madinah. The Muslim forces decided to camp near the well of water. At the same time, they destroyed every other well of water. This way, they enjoyed the water supply during the battle. Meanwhile, they would prevent Quraish from drinking water during fighting. That was a successful war strategy which enabled Muslims to be in a positive position during the battle. It was decisive as the battle went on.

The balance of power:

The muslim force consisted only of three hundred and thirteen men with some camels and few horses. On the other hand, Quraish troops counted more than one thousand armed warriors. They had many horses and many more camels. they thought it was not a battle. Rather, they thought it was a hunting journey during which they would hunt Mohammad and his followers.

The Muslims’ first victory:

The online lessons and courses of the Holy Quran and Islamic studies teach the online kid and adult students that the battle of Badr began with skirmishes. There was dual sword fighting in the beginning. During these dual sword fighting, Ali ibn Abi Talib proved how chivalrous he was. The Muslims gained additional self confidence. They could eventually beat the arrogant Quraish forces. The Muslims could cause Quraish more than seventy souls to Quraish. Muslims managed to wound many more warriors. Muslims could capture a lot of Quraish men. The muslims’ victory was undeniable. Quraish vowed to come again the following year to avenge themselves.

The battle of Uhud:

The armed struggle with Makkah

The Quraish’s reputation was at stake. People know the Arabs for taking revenge. The Quraish insisted on fighting Muslims once more. Therefore, the following year and in the third year after al-Hijrah, Quraish marched three thousand warriors to fight the Muslims at Madinah. The Quraish army was under the leadership of Khalid ibn al-walid. Khalid was one of the most successful leaders before and after Islam. prophet Mohammad had chosen the battlefield of the war. He asked some warriors to be archers and to guard the back of the fighting Muslims. prophet Mohammad gave them clear commands not to leave their posts on the mountain of Uhud regardless of whatever happened.

Obedience and disobedience:

At first, muslims did very well in the fighting. A lot of Quraish warriors fell either killed or wounded. Muslims rejoiced and felt victorious. Too hastley, the archers left their posts, maybe to collect some war looties. Khalid ibn al-Walid saw that Quraish was defeated again. Therefore, he began to withdraw his forces. The Muslims were busy celebrating and counting their profits. Khalid took the chance and veered up the mountain behind the Muslims who lost their cover.

Victory turns into defeat:

Khalid and Quraish attacked the Muslim army. Chaos ruled and the Muslim army was in disorder. Instead of their victory at the beginning, Muslims were defeated. Prophet Mohammad was in a tight corner and was almost killed. At the end of the day, more than seventy Muslims were killed. Only about twenty-two Quraish soldiers were killed. Quraish proved to be victorious in the battle of UhudMuslims were very sad at the outcome of the battle. However, it was a very important lesson which Muslim paid an expensive cost to learn. They learned to be obedient and never to disobey prophet Mohammad.
