Two Million Lessons Since 2008 Eaalim's UK and US Muslim Milestone
By Eaalim Institute on 5/19/2026 · 18 min read
A celebration message for American and British Muslim families — Eaalim Institute has crossed the milestone of 2,000,000 live one-to-one lessons delivered since 2008. Eighteen years. Tens of thousands of British and American Muslim students. Hundreds of credentialed Al-Azhar and equivalently-trained teachers. One classical Sunni methodology. The story behind the milestone, what it means for British Muslim families from Tower Hamlets to Cardiff and American Muslim families from Houston to Detroit, and what the next decade of Eaalim is being built for.
Alḥamdulillāh — two million lessons
It started in 2008. A small group of qualified instructors in Egypt — Qur'an teachers with full ijāzah chains, Arabic linguists with formal Azharī training, Islamic studies tutors with classical credentials — sat in front of internet-connected computers and began teaching their first English-speaking students one-to-one, live, over voice and video. The first hour passed. The first day. The first hundred lessons. The first thousand.
Eighteen years later, on this day in May 2026, Eaalim Institute crosses an internal milestone that the founders themselves would not have predicted in those first weeks: two million live one-to-one lessons delivered since 2008. Two million Qur'an recitations heard and corrected. Two million Arabic words taught and tested. Two million Islamic studies questions raised and answered. Two million times an American or British Muslim student logged in, met their teacher, and walked away with something they did not have an hour before.
This article is the family-facing celebration of that milestone. It is also an opportunity to share with new British and American Muslim families what the institute has learned across eighteen years — and what the next decade is being built for. The milestone is not the achievement; the families served, the children raised, the reverts walked from "I cannot read the alphabet" to "I lead my own salah," the parents who took the trust of their children's tarbiyah seriously — those are the achievement. Eaalim is honored to have been the channel.
Two million lessons — what that number actually means
The number itself is striking, but it becomes more concrete when broken down. From the founding of Eaalim in 2008 through May 2026 — eighteen years and four months, roughly 6,690 days — the institute has delivered an average of 299 lessons per day. Every day. Weekends included. Ramadan included. Christmas Day, New Year's Day, US federal holidays, UK bank holidays — every day. Hundreds of British and American Muslim students sitting in front of their laptops or tablets, in their bedrooms, kitchens or studies, meeting a credentialed teacher in real time.
The mathematical translation:
2,000,000 lessons across 6,690 days = ~300 lessons per day on average across the entire eighteen-year period.
If each lesson is an average of 30 minutes, that is 1,000,000 hours — over 114 calendar years of cumulative one-to-one Islamic teaching time.
If laid end-to-end at one lesson per minute, the entire two million would take 3.8 years of non-stop, 24-hour-a-day teaching to complete.
And every single one of those lessons was a real person meeting a real teacher, working through a real curriculum, with real correction in real time. The numbers are not server-stream counts, not pre-recorded video views, not algorithmic content impressions. They are live human encounters between credentialed teachers and serious students.
The Eaalim story — 2008 to 2026
2008–2010: The founding
Eaalim was founded in 2008 to address a gap that British and American Muslim families had been quietly suffering from for two decades. Local Saturday madrasahs were overcrowded. Qualified female teachers for sisters were scarce. Adult learners had nowhere dignified to go. Reverts felt embarrassed asking to learn the Arabic alphabet at age 35. Travelling families lost continuity every move. The geography of the UK and US Muslim community was wider than any single-city mosque could serve.
The founders, working from Cairo, drew on the deep classical tradition of one-to-one Qur'an teaching that the Companions themselves practiced. The model was Prophetic: one teacher, one student, real-time correction, sustained relationship over weeks and months. The technology was new — broadband video, secure platforms — but the pedagogy was fourteen centuries old.
2011–2015: The first growth
By 2015, Eaalim was serving thousands of families per month. The UK British Muslim community had become a major part of the student base — particularly in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford, Cardiff, Leicester, and Glasgow. The American Muslim community grew alongside it — Houston, Dallas, Detroit, the DMV, New York, Chicago, the West Coast. Adult learners — especially reverts — became a significant track. The first systematic ijāzah-pathway students completed their Qur'an memorisation under Eaalim teachers.
2016–2019: The structural expansion
The course catalog expanded. Beyond Qur'an and Arabic, structured programs were built in Islamic studies — fiqh, ‘aqīdah, sīrah, ḥadīth, akhlāq. A dedicated SEN-aware track for autistic and ADHD Muslim children began. The Saturday-only "weekend madrasah replacement" model evolved into a full weekday offering with multiple sessions per week per family. The home-school British and American Muslim community began using Eaalim as the Islamic-curriculum spine of their full-time education.
2020–2022: The pandemic acceleration
When COVID-19 closed mosques and madrasahs across the UK and US in 2020, Eaalim's infrastructure was already in place. Thousands of families who had relied exclusively on in-person Islamic education transitioned to online. Many never went back. By 2022, even after mosques reopened, the convenience, quality, and one-to-one ratio of Eaalim's offering had become the default for a substantial portion of UK and US Muslim families seeking serious Islamic education.
2023–2025: The maturation
The teacher roster grew to several hundred credentialed instructors. Female teachers for sisters and children became routine, not exceptional. Adult-revert and home-school tracks matured. The fiqh, aqeedah, seerah and hadith courses were structured into multi-year curricula. UK-specific and US-specific content — fiqh of UK/US life, halal finance, parental tarbiyah in non-Muslim majority contexts — became integrated modules. Eaalim began coordinating with British and American Muslim home-school networks and partner mosques.
2026: Two million lessons and counting
This year — between Ramadan 1447 AH and the May 2026 milestone — the cumulative total crossed two million live lessons delivered since 2008. New courses launched (including the specialised Science of the Ten Qira'at track). New family enrollments accelerated. The infrastructure continues to mature.
The British and American Muslim families behind the two million
The number is mathematical; the families are human. Across eighteen years, Eaalim has served:
British Muslim families across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — with substantial concentrations in Greater London, the Midlands, the North-West, Yorkshire, the South-East, and the Welsh capital. Eaalim has served families in every UK postcode area at least once.
American Muslim families across all fifty US states — with substantial concentrations in Texas, Michigan, California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, the DMV, and the Pacific Northwest. Eaalim has served families in every US state at least once.
UK British Muslim children from age 4 to age 18 — many of whom have stayed with Eaalim continuously for 6, 8, 10, even 12 years, walking from their first alphabet lesson to ḥifẓ completion to ijāzah.
American Muslim children across the same age range, with similar long-term retention.
British and American Muslim adult learners in their twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, sixties and seventies — many of them reverts, many of them second-generation Muslims completing the foundation they never received as children.
Home-school British and American Muslim families who use Eaalim as the Islamic spine of their full-time curriculum, often alongside other home-school subjects.
SEN-aware British and American Muslim children with autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent profiles — taught with adapted pedagogy by specifically-trained instructors.
British and American Muslim reverts from non-Muslim backgrounds, taught with the discretion, dignity, and pace that adult new-Muslim learners need.
Behind each of these categories are real families with real stories. The white British revert mum in Cornwall who started learning Arabic alongside her four-year-old. The Bangladeshi-American grandfather in Queens who memorised the last two ajzā' of the Qur'an in his retirement. The Somali-British teenager in Cardiff who completed Juz' ‘Amma during Ramadan 1444. The Turkish-American family in Chicago who timetable Qur'an, Arabic and Islamic studies across the morning before their secular home-school work in the afternoon.
What the two million lessons say about the British and American Muslim community in 2026
The number is not just an Eaalim milestone; it is a portrait of where the British and American Muslim communities stand in 2026. Several truths emerge from the data:
1. British and American Muslim families take Islamic education seriously
Two million lessons did not happen because Muslims drifted into them. Each lesson represented a family choice — a family budget allocation, a family calendar slot, a family belief that Islamic education matters enough to invest in.
2. Online one-to-one teaching has become the gold standard
The era when British or American Muslim parents would send their child to a 30-child Saturday madrasah and consider it adequate is over. The expectation now is one-to-one teaching with a credentialed instructor, real-time correction, structured progression, and parent reports — the same standard British and American parents have always expected for academic tutoring.
3. Adult learners are no longer marginal
A substantial portion of Eaalim's two million lessons were delivered to British and American Muslim adults — reverts, second-generation Muslims, home-school parents, retirees. The community has finally accepted that adult Islamic education is a primary track, not an afterthought.
4. Female learners are demanding female teachers — and getting them
The supply of qualified female Qur'an, Arabic and Islamic studies instructors has scaled to meet the demand. British and American Muslim sisters and girls now routinely have access to credentialed female teachers in their preferred madhab and Qur'anic recitation tradition.
5. The home-school British and American Muslim wave is structural
The thousands of British and American Muslim families that home-school their children — for safeguarding, RSE-curriculum, value-alignment, or academic reasons — have built Eaalim into their week as the Islamic backbone. This is no longer a fringe choice; it is a mature movement.
6. SEN-aware Islamic education is finally a real category
British and American Muslim parents of autistic and ADHD children no longer accept that their child cannot meaningfully access Islamic education. Eaalim's SEN-aware track has shown that, with adapted teaching, neurodivergent Muslim children can excel in Qur'an and Arabic learning.
The Eaalim teacher community — who has actually delivered these lessons
Two million lessons were not delivered by an algorithm. They were delivered by a teacher community that Eaalim has carefully built across eighteen years. The teacher roster includes:
Al-Azhar graduates — male and female — with formal degrees in Qur'anic studies, Sharī‘ah, Arabic linguistics, or Islamic studies.
Ijāzah-holding Qur'an reciters — with documented sanad chains back to the Prophet ﷺ, primarily in Ḥafs ‘an ‘Āṣim, with additional teachers credentialed in the broader Ten Qira'at.
Classical ‘ālimiyyah/aalimah-track scholars — for the deeper fiqh, aqeedah, hadith and tafsīr modules.
Specialist Arabic linguists for the modern standard Arabic and grammar/morphology tracks.
SEN-trained pedagogues with backgrounds in working with neurodivergent learners.
British and American Muslim cultural-context advisors who help shape the curriculum's relevance to lived UK and US family life.
Many of these teachers have been with Eaalim for over a decade. Their longevity is itself part of the institute's quality: students who started with a teacher in 2018 are often still working with the same teacher in 2026. The relationship is real, the pedagogy is consistent, the trust is built.
What the next decade of Eaalim is being built for
The two-million milestone is a marker, not a destination. Eaalim's planning for 2026–2036 focuses on four expansion vectors that British and American Muslim families have been requesting:
1. Deeper specialist tracks
The Science of the Ten Qira'at course (launched 2026) is the first of several deep specialist programs. Coming next: structured ‘aalimiyyah/aalimah pathways for serious adult students, advanced tafsīr-track courses, and specialized programs for British and American Muslim teachers wanting to train as Islamic educators themselves.
2. Family-package offerings
Many British and American Muslim families have multiple children, both parents, and grandparents all wanting Islamic education simultaneously. The next phase includes family-package pricing, coordinated cross-member timetabling, and family-wide progress reports.
3. Hyper-localized fiqh content
UK-specific fiqh modules — UK student loans, halal mortgages, NHS-specific health rulings, UK probate-law-compliant Islamic wills — alongside US-specific equivalents — Plan 2/5 student loans, Al Rayan/Gatehouse vs Lariba/UIF/Guidance halal mortgages, federal/state tax-compliant zakāh, US estate-planning-compliant Islamic wills. These are being built into the Fiqh Course directly.
4. Children's identity-formation curriculum
British and American Muslim parents have asked for explicit identity-formation curriculum — how to raise a confident British Muslim teenager in a Manchester sixth form, how to raise a confident American Muslim teenager in a Texas high school. The Adab Course is being extended with dedicated modules on this.
The dua' Eaalim families have been making — and the dua' for the next two million
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The best of you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it."
— Sahih al-Bukhārī 5027.
This hadith has been the spiritual operating principle of Eaalim since the first lesson in 2008. The Eaalim teacher who has spent eighteen years correcting children's tajwīd, hour after hour, day after day, is living this hadith. The student who has spent six years memorising the Qur'an alongside their Eaalim teacher is living this hadith. The parent who has invested in their child's Islamic education is sponsoring the living of this hadith.
The reward for the teacher continues, by the Prophet's ﷺ promise: "When a person dies, his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who supplicates for him" (Sahih Muslim 1631). Every Qur'an verse a teacher transmitted to a student, every Arabic letter, every fiqh ruling explained — these are ‘ilm yuntafa‘u bih, beneficial knowledge, that continues earning reward for the teacher (and the student, when they teach others) long after their lifetimes.
The next two million lessons — by the mercy of Allah ﷻ — will, insha'Allah, be delivered between 2026 and the years ahead. Eaalim is making the same dua' the founders made in 2008: "O Allah, make this a means of preserving Your Book, propagating Your dīn, and serving the British and American Muslim communities who have entrusted us with their children. Make every lesson sincere for Your sake. Forgive our mistakes. Multiply our reward. Bless the families we serve with righteous children and the comfort of eyes. And use this small institute, however imperfect, in Your great work of guiding humanity to Your light."
The invitation — for British and American Muslim families who are not yet part of the story
If you are a British Muslim family in 2026 — in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford, Cardiff, Glasgow, Belfast, Edinburgh, Leicester, Sheffield, Newcastle, Bristol, Nottingham, Coventry, Leeds, Liverpool, or any UK postcode — and your child does not yet have a structured Islamic education plan, this is the invitation.
If you are an American Muslim family in 2026 — in Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Brooklyn, Queens, Chicago, the DMV, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Atlanta, Tampa, Phoenix, Boston, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, or any US ZIP code — and your child does not yet have a structured Islamic education plan, this is the invitation.
If you are an adult British or American Muslim — a revert, a second-generation Muslim, a retiree, a working professional — who has been carrying a quiet wish for years that you could finally read the Qur'an properly, learn Arabic, study fiqh seriously, or memorize a few surahs — this is the invitation.
If you are a home-school British or American Muslim parent looking for a serious Islamic spine to your weekly curriculum, this is the invitation.
If you are the parent of a neurodivergent Muslim child — autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, sensory-processing — who has not been able to find an Islamic teacher with the right adaptive pedagogy, this is the invitation.

Thank you to the families who took us across two million lessons
This article cannot name the tens of thousands of British and American Muslim families who have been part of Eaalim since 2008. But the institute knows. The grandmother in Tower Hamlets who has had three of her grandchildren on Eaalim. The Houston father who himself learned Arabic for the first time at age 47 and is now teaching his own children. The Bradford home-school family who built their entire weekly curriculum around Eaalim's morning slots. The Detroit revert mother who said her shahādah on a Tuesday and was in her first Arabic alphabet lesson by the following Sunday.
The Sheikh and Sheikha teachers — many of them mothers and fathers themselves — who logged in faithfully for years to teach other people's children with the care they give their own. The administrators who scheduled the lessons, fixed the technical issues, and answered the parental questions. The students who showed up, week after week, often through illness and travel and family difficulty, because their dīn mattered.
All of you, together, made the two million lessons happen. Jazākum Allāhu khayran al-jazā' — may Allah ﷻ reward you with the best of rewards.
The classical Sunni methodology — confirmed again
Two million lessons of British and American Muslim families voluntarily choosing structured online Islamic education in a non-Muslim-majority context is itself a piece of historical evidence. It shows that the classical Sunni methodology — Qur'an, Sunnah, the understanding of the Companions, the four madhāhib, the credentialed teaching tradition — remains as compelling in 2026 as it was in seventh-century Madinah.
British and American Muslim families did not invest in Eaalim because of marketing campaigns or social-media virality. They invested because their families wanted the dīn. They wanted their children to read the Qur'an. They wanted their teenagers to understand fiqh. They wanted their reverts to learn Arabic with dignity. They wanted their home-schools to have an Islamic spine. They wanted their neurodivergent children included. They wanted the seriousness of the classical tradition delivered with the convenience of the modern medium.
And every lesson was a small renewal of the British and American Muslim community's covenant with its own dīn. Two million renewals. Across eighteen years. In the homes of families that the Companions could not have located on a map.
From the founders, the teachers, and every member of the Eaalim team — to every British and American Muslim family that took us this far
We are humbled. We are grateful. We are committed. We will keep going, insha'Allah, for as long as Allah ﷻ allows.
If two million lessons have been delivered to British and American Muslim families since 2008, then by Allah's mercy, the next two million can be delivered between 2026 and roughly 2036. That would mean by your child's eighteenth birthday — or by your own decade-marker — Eaalim could have served them, you, your grandchildren, and your reverts, with the same classical methodology, the same credentialed teachers, the same one-to-one ratio, the same dignified pedagogy, but in twice the number of households.
British and American Muslim families who join Eaalim today are part of that next chapter. Not the next "180,000 lessons" — those happened many years ago. Not even the next million — that is the medium-term goal. But the next two million. The next eighteen years. The next generation of British and American Muslim children who will, insha'Allah, walk through their adulthood with the Qur'an in their hearts, the Arabic on their tongues, and the fiqh in their hands — because their parents made the decision to enroll them in 2026, when this article was open on the family iPad on a Tuesday morning.
