The Year of Deputation: The Prophet’s Illness and Death:

When prophet Mohammad conquered Makkah, finished the affair  with Tabuk, Thaqeef embraced Islam, they vowed alliance to him, he gave the Arab tribes four months to decide their self-determination right before the emerging Muslim state decided it, the Arab deputations headed for him to surrender, declaring their submission and loyalty. Historians varied as to the number of the delegations who came to Madinah earlier than year nine H. This may have led to the difference in the number of the delegations to more than sixty to one hundred delegations. Some sources mentioned only the famous delegations.

Al-Bukhari said that some delegations, like that of Tameem, Abdel-Qais, Bani Haneefa, the delegation of Najraan and many other tribes. The stories of the deputations are very important as for how prophet Mohammad dealt with them. The prophet’s way of conduct with them teaches us a lot of lessons. The prophet taught us how to guarantee their loyalty  and their bond with al-Madina.

The ninth year of al-hijrah was characterized by the educational atmosphere concerning how the state welcomed and absorbed the newcomers. They stayed at a house allocated for them. In addition, the Madinah mosque helped a lot to reach that goal. The prophet asked some companions to host some newcomers too. The prophet cared a lot also for teaching these people about Islam, its ruling, Adab, norms and how to apply what they had learnt. On the other hand, many of them had questions about Islam and their old way of life. So, the prophet was very keen on teaching them. He mainly taught them the holy Quran. He also asked his companions to teach the newcomers. E-aalim is an online educational platform and institute. The E-aalim institute teaches the holy Quran, Arabic and Islamic studies online.

The prophet would ask about their leaders. If they were about to return home, he would advise them to stick to the right, urge them to be patient, then he would reward them generously. This way, they would return home as good examples guiding others to Islam. they would also tell their people about the characters of the prophet’s companions.

The Abd Al-Qais delegation:

Ibn Abbas mentioned about the arrival of the Abd Al-Qais delegation. He said when they came to the prophet, he asked them: “Who is the delegation?” They answered by saying: “We are the tribe of Rabi'a.” The prophet replied saying: “You are most welcome.” They said: “We have come to you from very far away, passing the land of the unbelievers of Muddar. We can only come to you in one of the prohibited months. Therefore, tell us about one thing with which we can enter paradise. They asked about the halal drinks. he allowed them to drink four drinks, and prohibited them from drinking four drinks. He ordered them to believe in Allah only. He taught them the testimony, the five obligatory prayers, giving zakat, fasting the month of ramadan and to give to the Muslim state one fifth of the war looties. He also prohibited them from four things. He told one of them that that man had one characteristic which Allah loves a lot.” The prophet was so busy with meeting them that he had to postpone the noon sunnah prayer. He prayed it after the Asr prayer that day.

The prophet wrote a letter to the Christians of Najran. he said: “I am inviting you to worship Allah alone without any associates. If you refuse my invitation, you will pay for the attributes. If you refuse my offer, I will wage a war against you. peace." When the bishop read the letter, he summoned his people and asked their opinion. They decided to send a fourteen chief member delegation to the prophet. They traveled to the prophet. They entered the mosque in their best attire. The Christians began to perform their prayers inside the mosque, directing their faces eastwards. the prophet said to his companions: “Leave them alone.” Having finished their prayers, they came to the prophet who turned his face away and did not talk to them. Uthman told them that the prophet did so because of their attire. The following day, they came to the prophet in the ordinary attire of monks. Then, they greeted the prophet who answered their greetings this time, inviting them to embrace Islam. They refused saying that they had been believers before the Arabs were. The prophet said that there were three things which prevented them from being Muslims. he said these three things were: worshiping the cross, eating pork and they claimed that Allah had a son. The debate rose in the mosque between them and the prophet. The prophet began to recite the Quran nullifying their false allegations. They said to the prophet: “Why are you belittling our prophet saying that he was the servant of Allah. The prophet said: “Sure Isa was the servant and the prophet of Allah and His word which He gave to virgin mary.” They got angry and said: “Have you ever seen a baby without a father? If you are truly a prophet, show us one human example like him.” At that moment Allah revealed the aya: “﴿إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَى عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آدَمَ خَلَقَهُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ * الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكَ فَلاَ تَكُنْ مِنَ الْمُمْتَرِينَ ﴾” The analogy of Isa for Allah is like that of Adam whom Allah created out of dust, then Allah said “Be” so he was there. This is the truth from your Lord, so do not be one of the skeptics.” This was a defying answer which gave them an even more challenging evidence. Then the prophet invited them to implore the curse of Allah on the liars: “﴿فَمَنْ حَآجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَنِسَاءَنَا وَنِسَاءَكُمْ وَأَنْفُسَنَا وَأَنْفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَلْ لَعْنَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَاذِبِينَ ﴾ ” Who argues you about Jesus after what came to you from the knowledge, say come, let’s call our children and your children, our parents and yours, our wives and yours, ourselves and yourselves. Let’s pray and make the curse of Allah befall the liars.”

The prophet got out of the mosque accompanied by Ali, al-hassan, al-husain, and Fatima. He said: “I have made my dua, make yours.” The delegation did not make their dua because they feared the curse of Allah because they knew they were liars and that he was a true prophet. They said that every person who challenged a prophet, they were ruined. They eventually said: “We accept your ruling and order us to do what you want.” He ordered them to pay two thousand coins, one thousand in Rajab, and one thousand in the month of Safar. They said: "Send an honest man with us to cash the money." so he sent Abu Ubaidah Ibn al-Jarrah.

The prophet’s emissaries to teach about Islam:

While the delegations came to Madinah, the prophet sent with them teachers to teach them about Islam. He focused on the southern part of Arabia. He taught the Yemeni tribes about Islam.

Arranging the Administrative and Financial Affairs:

The prophet would select his efficient and knowledgeable representatives. They would carry out the prophet’s orders and commands concerning the daily life affairs of the new Muslims all over Arabia. finally the journey reached its end.  In perfection lies imperfection. This means that when everything is complete and perfect, the next step is that it begins to decrease, collapse and ruin. When the moon is full, the next night, it begins to wane and decrease. When the fruit is ripe, it begins to go soft and rot. When people reach their prime and strongest, they begin to grow old and decline. When his message and mission were complete and perfect, Mohammad’s role and part was over on this earth. Muslims had grown countless in number. Islam had grown undefeatable. The revelation had been completed. The teachings of Islam had reached the horizons, and were clear in the minds and hearts of Muslims, and even in the hearts and minds of non Muslims. But Mohammad was so great and influential that there were many aspects of his character that need careful study and shedding light on. First, his domestic life and marital relations with his wives provide the most useful guidance for the domestic life of Muslims, men and women alike. His character and dealings with the Muslims and the non- Muslims, the amicable and hostile people, enjoyed his good care for justice and mercy towards them. In short, Mohammad incarnated the values and virtues of mercy on earth. When one of his wives was asked about the prophet’s character, A’isha said, “ His character was the Quran.

             Like  all mortal humans, Mohammad died on the 12th.,of Rabi al Awal, year 11 Ah. He was buried by Ali ibn Abi Talib, his kin and cousin, and son in law, in the apartment chamber of A’isha. The Muslims were too shocked to believe the news. Abu Bakr pacified them saying, “Who worships Mohammad knows that Mohammad was dead,but Who worships Allah knows that Allah is all- Living; and He never dies”.
