Severity, moderation and looseness

Severity, moderation and looseness

By admin on 12/22/2025

Introduction:

This blog is going to discuss and talk about some very important characteristics of the Arabic sounds and letters. These permanent characteristics are severity, moderation and looseness. We will study and discuss the three aspects in this blog.  to improve your Tajweed skills, you should study with E-aalim. there you will learn the letters of severity, moderation and looseness.

Severity, moderation and looseness

ِAl-shiddah (Severity):

This blog is going to talk about the aspect of (Shiddah), severity. al-shiddah literally means strength. Technically, it means the discontinuation of the sound while pronouncing it to rely greatly on its Makhraj. Therefore, the  following letters have this quality.      (  أجدك تقطب   )

At-Tawassut (Moderity):

literally, means moderation. Technically, it  means between strength and softness so that the speaker disconnects the sound partially when pronouncing the letter. iFor this reason, t is not a separate quality on its own. However,  falls in between both shiddah (severity) and Rakhawa (softness). Moreover, we find the quality in the following letters:                ( لن عمر   )

Rakhawa (Softness):

Literally means softness. It technically means the continuation of the sound. This happens  while pronouncing the letter causing weakness in its reliance on its Makhraj. So, all letters other than the letters of shiddah and Tawassut have this quality. Therefore, the  letters of Rakhawa are:

(  ص - ض - ظ - غ - ف - ك - ه - و - ي)

(ت - ث - ح - خ - د - ذ - ز - س - ش)
