Introduction:

First, Isti’laa:

Moreover and technically, Isti’laa means the elevation of the back of the tongue towards the roof of the mouth. This happens while pronouncing the (letter) sound. So, this category of letters constitute the arabic phrase:
( خ – ص – ض – غ – ط – ق – ظ )
Second. Istifaal:
In Tajweed, Istifaal literally means lowering down or dropping. Therefore, technically, Istifaal means keeping the tongue lowered or stretching flat. This takes place in the oral cavity away from the roof of the mouth. This happens while pronouncing a letter (sound). all the letters, other than ( خص ضغط قظ). are letters of Istifaal. Learning the letters (sounds) of Istifaal and Isti’laa is very important for every Tajweed student.
