Introduction

The Story in Brief

Historically, during the reign of Pharaoh, a tyrant who ordered the killing of all newborn boys among the Children of Israel, Allah revealed to the mother of Musa to place him in a basket and let it float on the river. That is why, this divine command was accompanied by a promise of protection:

{وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَرْضِعِيهِ ۖ فَإِذَا خِفْتِ عَلَيْهِ فَأَلْقِيهِ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَلَا تَخَافِى وَلَا تَحْزَنِىٓ ۖ إِنَّا رَآدُّوهُ إِلَيْكِ وَجَاعِلُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ“”} (Surah Al-Qasas: 7)

Later, she placed the basket in the river. Secretly, it was Musa’s sister was followed it, observe where it would end up, and ensure her brother’s safety.

Allah says:

{“وَقَالَتْ لِأُخْتِهِۦ قُصِّيهِ ۖ فَبَصُرَتْ بِهِۦ عَن جُنُبٍۢ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ”} (Surah Al-Qasas: 11

Musa’s Sister: Lessons of Wisdom and Courage

Courage in Times of Crisis:
So, despite the dangers surrounding her, Musa’s sister displayed immense bravery. Carefuly, she walked along the river, watched over the basket, and ensured no harm came to her brother. Truly, her actions remind us of the importance of courage during difficult times. Therefore, the sister of Moses, courage and wisdom is a very important character for all Muslims.

Intelligence and Presence of Mind:
Causiously, she followed the basket and acted wisely when the baby was found by Pharaoh’s household. Cleverly, she suggested finding a nurse for the child without revealing her identity or the child’s lineage. Amazingly, this led to the miraculous reunion of Musa with his mother:
{“فَرَدَدْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّهِۦ كَىْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ وَلِتَعْلَمَ أَنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّۭ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ”} (Surah Al-Qasas: 13)

Trust in Allah’s Promise:
