Lam shamsia and lam qamariah
The letter lam and the / l / sound has another Tajweed rule. Scholars call this rule lam shamsiya and lam qamariah. The word shams means the sun in Arabic. We need to learn THE RULES OF THE LAM (SHAMSIA, QAMARIA). However, it starts with the letter sheen, / sh / sound. When we introduce the definite article (al) which means (the), it is difficult to pronounce the lam, / l / sound before sheen (sh). Therefore, the letter lam and the sound / l / are silent in this case. That is why the silent lam letter and / l / is called (lam shamsiyah). There are certain letters and sounds before which the laam is shamsiyah.
