Introduction
There are days on which a muslim’s good deeds are doubled. The gates of mercy are wide open. Good deeds become dearer to Allah more than anytime else. They are namely the first ten days of dhul-hijja which prophet mohammad described as the world’s greatest days. Prophet Mohammad said: ((”There are no days during which good deeds are dearer to Allah than these ten days’)). Can we afford neglecting them and letting them pass without doing good deeds?
What makes these days a great chance?
This is because during these days, muslims do the greatest ibadahs; prayer, fasting, charity, Takbeer and making dua. During these days, the day of arafah, it is the day of escaping hellfire and the accepted dua. Allah swore by these virtuous ten days in the holy quran. Allah said. ((*”I swear by dawn and the ten days*’)) this is great evidence of their huge value.
How to make use of these days:
1- fasting, especially on the day of Arafah which forgives the sins of two years.
2- night voluntary prayers and reading the holy quran day and night.
3- zikr and takbeer. Say audibly: ((*”allah akbar, allah akbar, la illahailla allah, allah akbar allah akbar walillah al-hamdu.*”))
4- paying alms every day, even if it were very little.
5- serving the ties of kinship prayer and asking Allah’s forgiveness. Every moment these days is really a treasure. Therefore, you should make the best of it.
The day of arafah, a turning point:
The day of Arafah is the world’s best day. On that day, pilgrims stand in arafat. Allah forgives the sins, raises prayers and it is a chance for a new start with Allah. Prophet mohammad said: ((“*I am hopeful that fasting on the day of Arafah forgives the sins of two years, the year before it and the year following it.*”))
The sunnah of Takbeer during these days:
It is one of the abandoned sunnahs which we should revive. Takbeer in general starts on the first of dhul-hijjah and every day onwards. Restricted Takbeer after every prayer, starting with al-fajr prayer on the day of arafah, onward, till al-asr prayer on the thirteenth of dhul-hijjah.
An important reminder:
If you can’t do pilgrimage, Allah has opened other gates of obedience to you. Therefore, do your best on these days. Be one of the favorite servants of Allah.
