Introduction:

This blog is going to talk about the historical journey of Tajweed. Allah revealed the holy Quran for recitation and Tajweed. Afterwards, Muslim scholars began to write books on Tajweed in the fourth hijri century. Teachers taught the holy Quran as well as Tajweed orally. In the fourth hijri century, Tajweed began to be an independent science. Senior teachers taught juniors till the juniors mastered it. The first scholar who set the rules of Tajweed was al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi. Others said that it was Abu al-Aswad al-Du’ali or Abu Ubaid al-Qasim bin Salam. This happened after the spread of the Muslim conquests. At that time a lot of non-Arabs embraced Islam. Therefore, they needed to master the Quran recitation. So, a need to learn Tajweed arose.

The prophet advised the sahaba to learn tajweed:

To learn about the historical journey of Tajweed, we should know that prophet mohammad cared a lot for tajweed. he liked to listen to the holy quran from his companions. prophet mohammad asked abdullah ibn masoud to recite the holy quran to him. The prophet also advised his companions to recite the holy quran with tajweed. He said that if they had done so, this would have improved their voices. Moreover, prophet Mohammad said that whoever recites the holy Quran with tajweed will be in the same rank of the holy scribes.

The Benefits of learning Tajweed:

All muslims should learn tajweed and the historical journey of Tajweed. At least, a muslim should read the holy quran in a clear way. When a muslim learns and masters tajweed, this muslim pronounces the quranic words in a clear way. When a muslim pronounces the Quranic words in a clear way, he or she can realize the real beauty of the Quranic text. This is the first step to understand the meaning of the quranic verses. Moreover, this leads to improving their standard of arabic. They tend to be more fluent in arabic. They appreciate what they are reading. Of course this implies doubling their reward when reciting the holy quran.

The development of Tajweed:

Muslims grew in number. Therefore, the historical journey of Tajweed began. Dialects and tongues mingled and mixed. Therefore, there was an urgent need to learn the correct and accurate recitation of the holy Quran. Khalifa feared that this would lead to the loss of the sacred text of the holy Quran. Initially, the Quran was written with letters without dots. Therefore, dots were introduced. In a later stage, Tashkeel was also introduced. By Tashkeel we mean the phonetical suprasegmental phonemes of fatha, dammah, kasrah, sukoon, tanween and shaddah were also introduced. Such innovations led to the improvement of reading the holy Quran. They facilitated Quran recitations for the non-Arabs.

The Role of E-aalim in Tajweed:

E-aalim joined in the historical journey of Tajweed. E-aalim is not just an online platform to teach the holy quran, arabic and islamic studies for arabic non-native speakers. Moreover, it is an educational institute for teaching quranic sciences and studies. The E-aalim have issued their own Mushaf. The Mushaf has the name of Mushaf-E-aalim. It aims at teaching muslim kids and adults to master tajweed on their own. They can be clever at tajweed without a teacher. mushaf-e-aalim helps them with the job. In addition, E-aalim have issued their own tajweed books. The books help students in a very positive way.

The objectives of Tajweed:

Prophet Mohammad recommended that Muslims recite the holy Quran with Tajweed. Though the term Tajweed is a relatively later innovation and introduction to the Quran recitation, the concept of Tajweed was what prophet Mohammad meant and recommended. In many hadith, prophet Mohammad urged muslims to read and recite the holy Quran in a beautiful and perfect way. Also, he recommended those who enjoy beautiful sweet voices to recite the holy quran. In addition, he advised muslims to read the holy Quran a lot to improve the quality of their voices. Therefore, muslim scholars acted upon the prophet’s orientations and developed the science of tajweed.
