The story of prophet Lot

Introduction:

This blog is going to talk about the story of prophet Lot. The story of the prophet Lot is very interesting. It includes a lot of lessons for Muslims to learn. Therefore, every Muslim should learn the story of the prophet Lot. Allah sent prophet and messengers to warn people and convince them to believe in Allah. In addition, Allah sent with them their messages. Some messengers got revelation and heavenly books to guide people. However, a lot of people rejected the messages of allah. this was despite the fact that all prophets and messengers called for virtues and good morals. This was due to a lot of reasons.

        لَقَدْ كَانَ فِي قَصَصِهِمْ عِبْرَةٌ لِّأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ ۗ مَا كَانَ حَدِيثًا يُفْتَرَىٰ وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ

                    الَّذِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Why people rejected guidance:

The prophets and messengers of Allah were honest, sincere, virtuous and truthful men. They did their best to rescue their people and show them the straight path of allah. However, their people were stubborn and hostile. Despite the miracles with which Allah provided his prophets and messengers, the arrogant people refused the light of guidance. This was due to a lot of reasons. First, the elite thought that the religion of Allah would deprive them of all their privileges. This was because, they thought, Allah called for the equality of all humans. Second, people find it difficult to change their beliefs, culture and religion. Third, people worry about their economic interests. They think that the religion of Allah puts their interests at risk.

                    وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِن قَوْمِهِ لَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتُمْ شُعَيْبًا إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَخَاسِرُونَ

The efforts (jihad) of prophet Lot:

The story of prophet Lot was the story of a good and virtuous prophet. prophet Lot was one of the virtuous prophets who did their best to rescue and save their people in this worldly life and in the hereafter. prophet Lot and his people lived in the area of Sadoom, present day jordan. They say it was in the place of the present day Dead Sea. Allah sent them prophet Lot with the message of monotheism. prophet Lot was prophet ibrahim’s nephew. Lot called his people to worship allah alone. However, it was very hard for them to obey their prophet. they simply could not abandon their lifestyle only to obey one man from amongst them. their pride prevented them from being guided.

               وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِينَ

                         إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِّن دُونِ النِّسَاءِ ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ

The wicked people of prophet Lot:

The story of prophet Lot and his people was the story of a wicked people whom Allah punished and tortured. The people of Lot were really wicked people. First the males amongst them sexually enjoyed having sexual intercourses with males. They were homosexuals. prophet Lot warned them and asked them to stop what they were used to doing. He asked them to repent to allah. However, they did not like what Lot asked them to do. On the contrary, they threatened Lot and his followers to drive them out of their village. They wanted to dismiss Lot and his followers and banish them. Meanwhile, Lot went on calling them for virtue. They insisted on what they were doing.

                               قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَا لُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُخْرَجِينَ

The final torture of Allah:

The story of prophet Lot was the story of sin and torture. Seeing their insistence on committing sins and vices, Allah decreed torture upon those wicked people. among those bad people was the treacherous wife of prophet Lot. She did not follow the right path of allah. therefore, allah ruined her among the ruined wicked people. Prophet Lot was mentioned in the Holy Quran more than twenty-five times. the bad people of prophet lot challenged him to bring them his alleged torture. truly, the people of prophet Lot deserved their painful and tragic end and fate. Allah is always wise, fair and just. the people of prophet Lot were wicked and corrupt. However, prophet Lot warned and advised them for a long time. They were stubborn, arrogant and over-proud. their torture waa miracle, a warning and a horrible sign for the people to come after them.

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ مَّنضُودٍ

Prophet Lot was keen on guiding his people:

Although the people of prophet Lot were utterly wicked and bad, prophet Lot was keen on guiding and rescuing them. However, they blindly insisted on committing sins and bad deeds. Beforehand, prophet Lot warned his people and told them what was going to happen to them. Nevertheless, they arrogantly went on committing atrocities. taking things lightly, they asked prophet Lot to bring them what he had promised and warned them. At this point, prophet Lot made sure that his people deserved their promised fate. prophet Lot made dua to allah to punish those completely faulty people. Consequently, those bad people could not escape their inevitable doom and fate. they could not resist the  torture of allah.

                                               قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

The dua of prophet Lot:

prophet Lot resorted to allah. Therefore, prophet Lot made his sincere dua to allah. prophet Lot asked Allah to make him victorious over those unjust people. The response was swift and quick. Allah sent some of his virtuous angels in a human form. allah sent angels gabriel, Israfeel and michael to execute the torture. At first, the honorable three angels passed the village of prophet ibrahim. They gave Ibrahim the good news that Ibrahim, the aging prophet, would have his son Ishaq. They also told him about his grandson Yaaqub. moreover, they told ibrahim about the imminent torture of the people of prophet Lot. ibrahim was concerned about this and began to debate with the angels about the torture. 

                                      رَبِّ انصُرْنِي عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْمُفْسِدِينَ

Ibrahim tried to interfere:

Ibrahim was concerned about the fate of his nephew prophet Lot. the honorable angels pacified  the fears of ibrahim. Consequently, the angels made for the village of prophet Lot. they asked Lot for permission to get into his house. prophet Lot was happy to have such guests. However, he was worried that his people would disgrace him because of their bad conduct. prophet Lot feared that his people would try to touch those beautiful men, (the angels). the worst fears of prophet Lot came true. the wicked wife of prophet Lot leaked the news that Lot had beautiful male strangers as guests. when the people of Lot had heard the news, they hurriedly rushed to Lot’s house.

وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوا إِنَّا مُهْلِكُو أَهْلِ هَٰذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَانُوا ظَالِمِينَ

Lot tried to defend his guests:

the blindly wicked people of Lot tried to persuade Lot to let them enjoy his beautiful male guests. On his side, Lot tried to drive those wicked people away. prophet Lot was almost helpless defending his guests. seeing prophet Lot as such, the angels comforted him and told him that his people can not reach them. moreover, the angels told Lot that they came only to torture the bad people. The angels asked prophet Lot to abandon the village at night. the angels said that the torture would take place in the early morning. Therefore, they asked Lot not to look back while leaving the village. prophet Lot and his followers got ready to leave.

قَالَ إِنَّ فِيهَا لُوطًا ۖ قَالُوا نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِيهَا ۖ لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ

The final destruction of the people of Lot:

angel Jibril turned the village upside down. In a blink of an eye, four or five villages with about four hundred thousand residents disappeared with one move of one feather in the wing of angel Jibril. The residents of heaven could hear their cries and the barking of their dogs. there was a fearful cry and it rained stones on them. each stone bore the name of the man or the woman whom it would kill. hearing what was happening, the wife of Lot turned around to see what it was. she turned into stone at once. In no time, the wicked people were as if they were not there.

وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَصِيبٌ

             قَالُوا يَا لُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَن يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ. فَجَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ مَّنضُودٍ
