Every Muslim should learn the story of prophet yahya. prophet yahya was the son of prophet zakaria. Allah accepted the dua of prophet zakaria when he implored allah to grant him a son. Therefore, Allah made the birth of prophet yahya a miracle and a good sign. The sign of the good news was that Zakaria did not speak to people for three consecutive nights. Truly, Yahya was a prophet and one of the good men. Moreover, Yahya was a grateful son to his parents and a pious worshiper to allah.
The story of Yahya’s birth:
The story of Yahya’s birth was in the Holy quran. It was also in the life story of prophet zakaria. Allah said that Yahya was matchless and peerless. while allah gave al-khedre knowledge , allah also gave yahya affection as well. affection means love based on knowledge. Among the other prophets, Yahya was a good model for worship, asceticism and divine love. Yahya was the pious prophet who illuminated the way to Allah for all creatures. people, beasts, birds, deserts and mountains loved prophet yahya. prophet Yahya loved everything and everything loved prophet yahya. However, prophet Yahya met his end and died because of a bad woman.
The favor of prophet Yahya:
The favor of prophet Yahya was very great. scholars discussed the favor of prophet yahya. prophet yahya was contemporary to prophet isa ibn mariam. This means that they lived in the same time and age. In addition, they both were relatives. Yahya’s mother and mariam’s mother were sisters. In other words, Yahya was Mariam’s maternal cousin. Once, prophet Yahya met prophet Isa ibn mariam. Isa asked Yahya to make dua for him. because Isa thought that Yahya was more pious than himself. Yahya replied saying that Isa was more pious than himself. This was because Isa sent prayers and greetings upon himself, while Allah sent prayers and greetings upon yahya. This story shows us the favor of prophet yahya.
prophet mohammad mentioned prophet yahya:
one day, prophet mohammad saw his companions discussing the favor of different prophets. one of them said that musa had a talk with allah. another companion said that isa was the soul of allah. a third companion said that ibrahim was the close friend to allah. etc. at that moment prophet mohammad asked them: ((“What about the martyr and son of a martyr?”)). He referred to prophet yahya ibn zakaria. prophet mohammad added that yahya would wear woolen clothes and eat the leaves of the trees for fear of committing sins. this shows us the virtue and the great value of prophet yahya in islam and with prophet mohammad himself.
The early years of prophet Yahya:
prophet yahya was born to good parents and into a good family, in fact, his birth was a sign and a miracle for all humans. Zakaria was very old when his son Yahya was born. Zakaria had long been desperate to have a son. He made dua from the depth of his heart to Allah to give him a son. The childhood of Yahya was not an ordinary one. Most children liked to play and have fun. However, Yahya was always serious. Some children tortured birds, animals and insects for fun.On the contrary, Yahya would feed these insects, birds and animals out of his mercy and passion. Yahya would only keep little food for himself after feeding such weak creatures.
Young Yahya grew up:
Yahya grew up into a kind and merciful youngman. The light of faith illuminated Yahya’s face. His heart filled up with knowledge, love of Allah, peace and wisdom. Yahya loved reading since his childhood. Allah gave Yahya the love of knowledge and wisdom. For this reason, Yahya loved jurisprudence, legislation, and religious knowledge. He taught and guided people to the right path of Allah and justice. His compassion to his parents, humans and all of the creatures was peerless. In short, Yahya filled the whole world with love, knowledge, wisdom and piety. He would often ask people to repent and return to their almighty lord. Everyone loved Yahya, no one hated him.
The plot against yahya’s life:
At the time of Yahya, a king ruled the town. Nevertheless, the man who ruled the city was an unjust, corrupt and wicked king. This king wanted to marry his niece. this was illegal in the religion of yahya. it was wrong . The king wanted to marry the woman for her beauty. On the other hand, the woman wanted to marry the king for his power. The king wanted to get the consent of Yahya for that marriage. Yahya refused as it was forbidden in his religion. The woman asked the king to kill Yahya and bring her his head as a wedding gift. The king agreed and did. He killed Yahya and presented her with Yahya’s head on a plate.
