Introduction:
This blog is going to discuss an amazing phenomenon. A lot of Muslims worldwide compete all the time in how to memorize the Holy Quran. It is not an easy task at all. However, the number of the Holy Quran memorizing Muslims increases all the time.
The Holy Quran and al-Mushaf:
The Holy Quran is basically an oral text. This means that the Holy Quran was orally revealed to prophet Mohammad via angel Jibril over a period of twenty- three years. Muslims had to write the Holy Quran down in one book. They called that book al-Mushaf. Later, due to some political circumstances, about eight copies were made of the first Mushaf and distributed to the different parts of the Muslim state at that time. Ever since, Muslim scholars as well as people interested in making books, did their best to care for the Holy Book of Allah. Mushafs have been a great field for the Islamic art from the beginning.
The art and craft of Hifzul Quran:
The prophet’s tradition, sunnah and hadith encourage Muslims to memorize, learn and teach the Holy Quran. Prophet Mohammad said: “ The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it. ُْ“ُ ْخَيركُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ”. He also said: “Who reads one letter of the Holy Quran gains ten good deeds, a good deed will be multiplied ten times as much. I don’t say (alif, lam, meem) is one letter. Rather, alif is a letter, lam is a letter and meem is a letter.”
“مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ فَلَهُ حَسَنَةٌ وَالْحَسَنَةٌ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا لَا أَقُولُ الم حَرَفٌ وَلَكِنْ أَلِفٌ حَرْفٌ وَلَامٌ حَرْفٌ وَمِيمٌ حَرْفٌ”
The efforts of Muslims with Hifzul Quran:
Hifzul Quran helps a Muslim gain a great reward. The student who memorizes the Holy Quran is said to sit on seats of lights on the Day of Judgment. Their parents wear crowns of light as well. Likewise, the teachers of the Holy Quran are rewarded many folds. The angels put their wings down honoring the teachers. The fish and whales in the deep oceans ask Allah to forgive teachers. Moreover, sponsors and patrons who help students learn the Holy Quran share in the great reward. A Muslim who builds a tiny mosque as small as a bird’s nest, has a palace built for them in paradize.
The efforts of serving the Holy Quran:
Ever since the Quran was compiled in one and the same book, Muslims spared no effort in serving the Holy Book. Making the paper of the Quran witnessed great efforts of improvement. Producing al-Mushaf became an independent art and craft. Writing the verses of the Holy Quran developed the art of the Arabic calligraphy and orthography. Artists competed in writing the Holy Quran in the most beautiful way. Decorating the Mushaf pages, margins and covers reflected the Arabic and Muslim civilization. The Holy Quran is an audio text in the first place. Therefore artists and veterans of recitation set the foundations of the rich and diverse recitation schools. Master taught juniors how to recite the Holy Quran in the most beautiful and accurate way.
